Talent Bonds provide young people with financial support to pursue their goals, develop new skills and take steps towards making their dreams a reality.

Tough choices for the panel of young people

Last November a panel of young people did an incredible job in reviewing a host of strong applications that were not only innovative and creative, but community focused too. The Talent Bonds panel is made up of individuals who share similar experiences and challenges to those who are applying, so they understand the difficulties young people face in accessing opportunities and pursuing their passions. Trimming down the shortlist and allocating the available funds to 17 successful applicants was no mean feat!

Some of the successful Talent Bond awards:

  • One award was given to a young person with the funds to purchase a SIA security course along with essential clothing, supporting their dream of entering employment and furthering opportunities for independent living.
  • Another award was given to a group of young people that applied for funds to run cooking classes to help build their culinary skills and confidence as well as providing opportunities for young people to connect and meet new people.
  • Another award was given to young people to buy boxing classes and equipment to help improve fitness, technique and experience.

One of our young panellists, Morgan Lea, said:

“I really enjoyed it as it gave me an insight into the work around Foyers. Being able to work alongside the Foyer Fed has made me really want to carry on working with them even when I have moved out of Bridge Foyer. I really enjoyed working with people from different backgrounds and from different Foyers around the UK. Being able to help with decision making for the grant is great because I can get to know all types of people’s goals and hobbies, and learn about things I’ve never thought too much about. I would love to be a part of another Panel and keep supporting the Foyer Federation and the young people for as long as I am able to.”
